Pfizer Public Policy: How Pfizer is Helping Improve Health Care
Every day Pfizer is working hard to advance patient health by bringing important new medicines to market. But not a day goes by when we are not also involved in a number of activities aimed at improving public health that extend beyond what many might view as the "everyday" business of a pharmaceutical company.
Pfizer has committed to enhancing health care in America and its Health Reform Principles. Here are a number of examples of how Pfizer is putting its Principles to work:
- Pfizer is taking steps to help address the crisis of the uninsured. Major areas of action include:
- Expanding access to medicines through support for programs such as Pfizer Helpful Answers®, Pfizer Pfriends™, Sharing the Care™, and Connection to Care™.
- Supporting access through The Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA), pharmaceutical assistance program established by a national coalition of pharmaceutical companies, physicians, pharmacists, other health care professionals, patient advocates and community leaders. PPA offers a single point of access to more than 275 patient assistance programs, including more than 150 programs offered by pharmaceutical companies.
- We've also supported initiatives designed to improve elderly patients access to pharmaceuticals, such as the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit, Pfizer for Living and Medicare drug discount cards.
- Pfizer is an active participant in the national conversation about how to extend health insurance coverage to more Americans. Pfizer is one of the lead sponsors of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's annual Cover the Uninsured Week—an initiative designed to draw attention to the problem of the uninsured and find new and innovative ways to increase the number of Americans covered by health insurance.
- Pfizer is reducing the cost of care through disease management programs, such as Florida Healthy State. This collaboration between Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and Pfizer addresses the critical health care needs of over 150,000 Medicaid patients. Read more about this groundbreaking program at Pfizer Health Solutions.
- Pfizer is committed to improving low health literacy through the Pfizer Clear Health Communication Initiative—which is aimed at raising awareness of this public health problem and developing solutions that positively impact patient health outcomes.
- Pfizer is helping to eliminate health disparities. Addressing health disparities can be a major step in improving our nation's overall health. This booklet provides examples of Pfizer's efforts and programs to overcome health care disparities: Working to End Health Disparities
